Forests without Borders overview

Forests without Borders is a registered Canadian charity established by members of the Canadian Institute of Forestry. Typically, Forests without Borders works independently, or with existing non-government organizations, to deliver the skills, knowledge and tools that enable poverty-stricken communities in countries around the world meet their challenges, as well as learn more about the many benefits obtained from the forest. The scarcity of resource, such as fuel, shelter and water result in a cascade of problems in these communities that undermine human security and health. Many of these problems can be effectively resolved through proper forestry.

Forests without Borders grew out of a desire by Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF) members to use their skills and knowledge to help people reduce poverty, restore ecosystems and increase people’s understanding of the sustainable development of forest resources. This desire by our members to help others is consistent with the CIF’s core value of altruism and mission to advance stewardship, provide leadership, and increase awareness of forests.

Forests without Borders is lead and governed by a National Board of Trustees and is supported in its activities and fundraising by several provincial caucuses, including Alberta for RMS members. Members of the CIF-Rocky Mountain Section serve on the National Board, as well as conduct international project activities and fundraising through the Alberta Caucus. The Rocky Mountain Section has supported Forests without Borders since its inception, and works to increase awareness, raise funds and advocate for special interests. The Caucus coordinates fund-raising events and actively encourages donations.
